Working into the wee hours of the night. Like his dad. Sniff.

Sometimes I like to just start driving somewhere, take a few turns, pull off the road, and see what we can find. This is what we found this morning. Warm water, big rocks, and kind sunshine.

"Tell me about this,"
I asked him.
“It’s a drawing of David and Goliath. But I gave David a sword and shield instead of a sling so he could have better weapons. And there’s a dragon flying in the air who’s breathing fire on a fish it’s going to eat because it’s not vegetarian.”
"I love your interpretation."
And I meant it.

I honestly can not really even tell us apart these days. You’d barely know I’m sixteen years older. Except I see a little more kindness, wisdom, street smarts and 30 extra pounds of taut steely muscle on me. I’m on the left…I think.
thanks for snapping, @countessbecca :)
This a fake photo. I had actually finished the book already, and asked my daughter to snap a picture of me ostensibly reading it, because that’s what I do every time I finish a #RainbowRowell book: take a selfie. Or, order my daughter to take a fake one. Anyway. As a huge fan of Eleanor & Park, I wasn’t prepared to fall in love with this. It took me longer to get embedded in the story, but by halfway through I was all in. Set at the turn of the millennium, a lonely chap works nights at a newspaper reading flagged emails, and becomes especially intrigued by two friends with a lively habit of exchanging hilarious, poignant, and often profane emails…and just maybe, he’s starting to fall for one of them. Oh Lincoln, you gotta move outta your mom’s house.
Thoroughly charming, even while jumping unflinchingly and humorously, yet thoughtfully into some heavy topics. The joys of friendship in some of its strange forms.

It just blows my mind sometimes how beautiful the Pacific Northwest is. Gorgeous Gorge as we said goodbye to a fantastic afternoon of hiking, rock clambering, water sloshing, and ice cream eating.

ON READING ALOUD TO TINY PEOPLE.
There are purists, who read verbatim, with no deviation from the text. And there are story-interpreters, who take the liberty of livening up the narrative when it seems to need it. I’m pretty good at one of these, but I don’t remember which. There are children in this picture too. Their presence is not entirely unendurable. I did not spill my coffee, very much.
